Hemingray vintage glass insulator in cobalt blue glass with threaded centre which will make a beautiful curiosity for a window sill as they look great when caught by the light. Vintage glass insulators come in many colours but blue seems to be the colour we come across most often which is great as it is one of our favourite types. As for the history of this one we know that it is later than 1865 because that was when Lee Covey invented the insulator cavity thread that screwed the insulator on and stopped them falling off the poles when the lines expanded or contracted. We also know that it was probably collected by a US linesmen as they were the guys that had the job of swapping the old vintage glass insulators with the new Porcelain ones. It is funny to think that back in those days those US linesman could not give them away as most people thought these beautiful old glass insulators were only fit for the skip, how wrong they were.
